Do I need to be an American citizen to receive a grant from the Leukemia Research Foundation?
No. The Leukemia Research Foundation funds researchers around the world. You do not need to be at an American institution either as scientific labs worldwide have received awards from the Leukemia Research Foundation.

What research topics do you fund?
Eligible applications must demonstrate their pertinence to the causes, cures or increased understanding of hematological malignancy. Applications in the areas of biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, and immunology are accepted as long as the proposal is linked in a significant way to an aspect of leukemia, lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndromes or related blood cancers, with preference given to leukemia, lymphoma and MDS.

Do you fund basic or clinical research?
We fund both, as long as the proposed study relates to leukemia, lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndromes or related blood cancers. For a partial list of projects we have funded in past grant cycles, please see our list of Past Recipients.

What is the deadline for the 2010-2011 grants cycle?
Deadline for the 2010-2011 grant cycle is 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time, on Monday, February 15, 2010.

If I am funded when does funding begin?
The first cash transfers for the 2010-2011 cycle will made on July 1, 2010, with equal amounts disbursed on a quarterly basis.

How many applications do you receive each year and what is your rate of funding?
We do not have a pre-determined rate of funding. The number of applications submitted fluctuates significantly each year. Additionally the amount of money the Leukemia Research Foundation is able to provide in grants can change from year to year. We do not maintain statistics on the number of applications actually funded.

Are renewal applications welcomed?
No. Renewal applications are not accepted.
